What happened: Conservative pundit Steven Crowder obtained photos of disturbing writings from Audrey Hale, the transgender shooter who killed three children and three adults at a Christian school in Tennessee before police killed her. At least two media outlets have confirmed the photos as real, with one citing state employees. There are many more pages of Hale’s writings not yet released.

Her motives: Photos of Hale’s journal showed her expressing hatred for children with “white privileges” at the elementary school. She complained of them “going to fancy private schools” and coming from well-off families. “Wanna kill all you little crackers!” Hale ranted.

  • Background: Hale had a tense relationship with Christian parents who wouldn’t accept her as gay or transgender, plus mental health issues. Investigators said she may have resented having to attend the school as well.

Why it matters: Hale’s story is not only a picture of growing transgender extremism — shown by those who sympathized with her actions — but of anti-white sentiment that has been mainstreamed in American institutions. It’s not the only recent attack in which the perpetrator sought revenge against whites perceived as privileged. The group-based ideologies of the left continue to inspire violence against innocent individuals.

Suppression: LGBT activists and even parents of victims campaigned against the release of the manifesto, which became the topic of multiple legal challenges. Local and federal law enforcement have withheld it for months, and the city of Nashville is now investigating the leak.
